We Still Love Jon Favreau

As of RIGHT NOW, Nerd Critic (to the) Max is up and running!

More details to follow (in the Announcements section -- where else?), but suffice it to say you can now indulge every Nerd Critic appetite and whim with only a couple (few?) bucks a month.

This week, we spent a lot of time with Mr. Favreau. We gave him his very own episode, and then we made a solemn pilgrimage to the theater to swear fealty to The Lion King.

Okay, so maybe Disney is just in it for the money. Well of course they are, but... Listen, this is a weirdly complicated thing to unpack, so you're just going to have to hear the whole conversation. (We still really love you, Jon.) ALSO! We have finally, officially rolled out Nerd Critic (to the) Max!

Oh, and Marvel announced some interesting things, too. Guys, this is a big episode. Perhaps even fit for a King. (#sorrynotsorry)

Jon Favreau has worn every hat -- he's an accomplished writer, director, and actor, with enough talent for all three that he could have made a career out of any of them, and that's what makes him an outstanding producer. So far, it's as an ongoing producer in the MCU that he's had perhaps the greatest impact, but even bigger things are in store.

It should come as no great surprise that we are huge, HUGE fans of Mr. Favreau. With The Lion King right around the corner, we decided this was the perfect opportunity to dedicate an Off The Shelf episode to him and his work.

Coming up next week...

Join us on Monday, July 30th, for an Off the Shelf episode about Mr. QT himself, Quentin Tarantino.

And then on Friday, August 2nd, we're going to dive deep into his latest film, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

ANNOUNCEMENTS!

Imagine, if you will, a drumroll...

As of RIGHT NOW, Nerd Critic (to the) Max is up and running. The following is not representative of our brand design or colors, but rather a typographic expression of our enthusiasm.

NERD CRITIC (to the) MAX!

You can go to our Himalaya Page (where it's called, rather boringly, Nerd Critic Premium) for way more information, but here's the briefest rundown we can ethically manage:

  1. LIVE episodes, in which all our supporters will get to join us in REAL TIME for adventurous conversations about movies and whatever else we all feel like talking about

  2. Early episodes (two whole days!)

  3. Bonus mini-episodes we're calling Nerd Critic Nonsense

  4. No ads, ever

  5. Other goodies we won't tell you about because what's the fun if there are no surprises?

And you can get Nerd Critic (to the) Max by becoming a supporter on Himalaya -- it's $2.99/month. Which, if you think about it, is only about 10% of what you're paying for AMC A-List. On a side note, we think they should be sponsoring our show. If you agree, write them a letter to tell them so.

You may be wondering how we decided to name this special thing. If you listen to The Lion King episode, you'll find out. (Caution: It will not increase your confidence in our creative process.)

OK. That's it. We really hope you decide to join Nerd Critic (to the) Max, but don't worry. All our regular episodes will always be free forever.

Social Media Try-Harding

It shouldn't come as any surprise that this was our most popular post last week.

If you haven't contributed to this urgent, vital conversation yet, what are you waiting for?! We're counting on you!

HOW WILL WE EVER FIND ANSWERS IF YOU DON'T GIVE US YOUR OPINIONS???
