Wonder People

It was a weird week. Our Off the Shelf episode was an ecstatic venture into female empowerment, and then we had to make hairpin turn that was so sharp it made us dizzy.

Is it fair to cast The Rock, The Transporter, and Black Superman as the male counterparts to Gal Gadot's inhabitation of Wonder Woman?

That sounds like a great question for a different podcast.

Hobbs and Shaw was perhaps exactly what everyone was expecting. Whether that’s a good or bad thing is in the eye of the (literal) beholder. We were actually amazed at how much there was to talk about.

If we're being honest, we were waiting for the opportunity to feature actual women before diving into this giant cultural splash of a movie.

Cassidy Davis and Mallory Fuccella did not disappoint, and are, as expected, charming, hilarious, and insightful.

If you want to hear (and see!) more of these two, check out their excellent web series, Adulting (available wherever there is Internet).

Coming up next week...

Did you think we weren't going to do an OTS episode about the Fast & Furious franchise? Silly you. (Monday, August 12th).

And then on Friday, August 16th, we're going to cook up an episode in The Kitchen.

ANNOUNCEMENTS!

CJ and Jordan always knew the day would come when Nerd Critic infiltrated another podcast like tumorous growth that had metastasized.

That day has finally come. Head on over to 2 Nerds and A Joke to hear Jordan try his hardest to sound smart about movies in front of someone other than his generous and patient cohost.

Nerd Critic (to the) Max

OK, so by now you could probably recite back to us all the perks you could get with a premium subscription toNerd Critic on Himalaya. If you can't, we're not doing a great job of getting the word out. And we're pretty sure we're doing a great job.

Anyway, we thought you might be curious as to what all the Nonsense is about. So here's a quick summary:

  • Dad jokes - Jordan defends the indefensible.

  • Legos - Jordan learns that CJ doesn't have a history with Legos, and you can hear his heart break in realtime.

  • Sidekick movies - CJ and Jordan finally answer this question, once and for all: "What's the deal with sidekick movies?"

  • take 2 - We took the RIDICULOUS ending of a recent episode, and lightly remixed it for no good reason at all.

These are all available as of today, with more coming at least once every week, and probably more often. They'll always be available to our supporters, no matter when you sign up.

You're welcome.

See you next week!
